Persons who are enrolled in the national register, live in rented accommodation and who are not pensioners can seek housing benefit.
To receive housing benefit your accommodation must be for living in all year round and have its own kitchen or kitchenette and a drain.
Housing benefit is calculated on the basis of the household income and property, the cost of the rent, the size of the accommodation and the number of residents.
When you are receiving housing benefit, you must contribute a minimum amount to the rent per year (22,500 DKK in 2012).
Benefit can only be given to subsidise the rent. Expenses for water and electricity are not included in the calculation of the benefit.
You do not pay tax on the housing benefit.
