Health visitor
All families in Guldborgsund Municipality are offered advice and guidance about the health, development and well-being of their child during a home visit in the first year of the child’s life.
Families with newborn children are contacted by the health visitor at the latest one week after coming home from the hospital. At that occasion, we offer the first visit at home. After this, visits are arranged from one visit to the other or by contacting the health care services.
The duration of a home visit varies from approx. 1 – 1 ½ hours, depending on what should be discussed during the visit.
For example, together we can discuss the development, needs, and well-being of the child. We can provide guidance about breast-feeding, nursing, care of the child, diet, accident prevention, the significance of play, sibling rivalry, upbringing, togetherness in the family and much more.
At least 5 visits will be offered in first year of the child’s life. The number and frequency of the visits depend on whether this is the first child in the family, if the family has several children or if the family has children with special health care needs.
As a supplement to the home visits, the health care services hold ”Open House” arrangements, similarly, there are also mothers groups in Guldborgsund Municipality.
The health care visitors regularly make consultancy visits to the day-care centres and child minders. They assist staff with advice and guidance about general health promotion and the prevention of diseases. Furthermore, they advise members of staff regarding children with special needs under their care. This advice is given after contacting the parents of the child.
