Diet
Health is not just a question of absence of illness. Health is also about the quality of life. Are you apathetic, out of sorts and tired of the food you eat or are you fresh, full of energy and happy?
Diet plays an essential role in our daily well-being and can ultimately affect whether our body functions as it is genetically “designed” to or it struggles against health problems and ultimately illness.
In Guldborgsund Municipality it is our vision to spread greater knowledge about healthy diet. We have therefore a range of offers for various target groups, which can help to assure the spread of this knowledge.

Exercise
Exercise has a decisive influence on our physical, physiological and social health. Living with exercise as a natural part of our daily routine has a tremendous impact on the quality of our lives. The body is designed for motion and will seize up if we do not seek to keep it active, regardless of our age. Exercise is health sustaining in itself.
Physically active people:
- experience joy by doing exercise – especially when done in the company of others
- live 5 to 6 years longer than inactive people
- have 8 to 10 better years of life without illness than inactive people
- have more energy and vitality
Physically active children:
- find it easier to get on socially
- have greater confidence
- feel less helpless
- are less tired in the mornings
Therefore, there are many good reasons to keep your body in good shape and to make exercise a part of our busy everyday lives.
Stop smoking
Smoke from tobacco contains more than 1000 different substances, amongst others nicotine, carbon monoxide, hydrocyanic acid, nitrogen dioxide and acrolein, each of which is particularly harmful to your health.
You may ask yourself: ”Why did you begin smoking?” You began smoking because others did it. Children begin because they want to imitate their parents and later on, their slightly older friends. Once upon a time, many boys used to get cigarettes and cigarette cases as confirmation presents.
Smoking is not a private affair! Neither airing nor ventilation removes the cancer-producing particles, which smokers leave behind in a room. Particles are absorbed into the furniture, carpet and other such furnishings, and continue to pollute the room long after the smoke is no longer visible. With every drag the smoker gets 100 billion particles in the mouth and upon inhalation 90% enters the lungs.
The passive smoke contains more harmful particles than the burnt smoke. Half of the particles are ionized and some are radioactive. The risk of lung disease, certain cancer illnesses and cardiovascular diseases increases many times.
When you quit smoking, you will soon experience improvements: Your condition will be better because your heart and lungs will find it easier to function, your sense of smell and taste will improve, your complexion will improve, and your skin will not be so grey and wrinkled. Your teeth will not be discoloured; you will have fewer headaches and sleep more soundly at night.
Guldborgsund Municipality offers its citizens and employees working in both the private and public sectors information about passive smoking together with a free stop smoking course, which can be held in groups at the pharmacist or at the workplace. We also offer individual stop-smoking courses for citizens who would like to quit here and now, for such reasons such as pregnancy or in relation to an operation.
